The Ministry of Education is currently rolling out new curriculum documents, bringing updates to the way core subjects like reading, writing, and maths are taught and assessed in schools across Aotearoa. At Twizel Area School, our dedicated teachers are actively engaging with these changes to ensure a smooth and effective transition for our learners. Recently, teachers from both Twizel and Omarama came together to explore the revised English curriculum in more depth. The professional development session focused on unpacking the structure and content of the updated curriculum, allowing staff to collaborate, ask questions, and share strategies. It’s all part of a wider effort to make sure our teaching practice remains aligned with national expectations—while continuing to support student success in the classroom. Teachers are working hard to understand and transition into new content and assessment expectations in the core areas of reading, writing and maths. We’re proud of the commitment our teachers are showing as they adapt to these changes, and we’re excited about the positive impact this work will have on our learners.
