On Wednesday, August 27th at 2pm, a number of staff at the school (Year 1-6 teachers and support staff) will be attending a paid union meeting, facilitated by NZEI Te Riu Roa.

These meetings are an entitlement for all union members and can take place up to twice a year, and they are only called by the union when there is an urgent or important update. School staff will be discussing how to keep and attract skilled people in education, and what conditions and staffing levels we need to make sure education works for all our tamariki. Our staff’s working conditions are your children's learning conditions. Like you, we want the best for them at school/kura.

What does this mean?

The school will be open, but our teaching program and classroom arrangements will differ for a couple of hours. We will not be able to cater for all students on site while this meeting occurs.

If you would prefer to make an alternative arrangement for your child during this time, please let us know - you can collect your child at 1:30 pm. Students who do remain at school will be supervised by non-union teachers.

Feel free to get in touch if you’ve got questions! We know that the community values school staff, and recent polls show that there is strong support for the need to pay people in schools better. We will need to build on that community support to persuade the government to address our claims and issues, so it is helpful to share information about this with your community where possible. Keep your Presiding Member and school board informed and ask them to support messaging to your community.

This union meeting will not affect our middle and senior school students. Classes will continue as normal for them.
