Head Student Kiara Thyne looks back on the activities from the last few weeks, as well as a timely reminder to her fellow senior students about the upcoming Derived Grade Exams.

Kia ora koutou, welcome to week five of term!

It’s a bit daunting knowing that we are already halfway through the term, with the derived grade exams approaching very quickly and the end-of-year exams right around the corner. We’ve entered a stage in the year that, for most senior students, is a very stressful and study-heavy time. From my own experience, my best advice is to not leave it to the last minute and ask for help!

The past few weeks have been busy! We have had Peace Week, a student-led event that Mackenzie has written about further. The UW and North Otago cross country, and from what I’ve seen, we’ve had some fantastic results! Congratulations to the students who represented our school with pride. Our juniors have been travelling to Tekapo for ice-skating trips, which for me was always a highlight when I was in junior school. We have also had students participating in the Snow Sports at Dobson this Monday. Congratulations again to all those involved.

Recently, we have restarted our Kapa haka rōpū, with practices occurring at DEAR time on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for middle to senior school. I want to reiterate that any student is welcome, even if you don’t know the lyrics to any of the waiata or haka. We are all constantly learning in the group and would love it to grow, so please come along. We are hoping to open it up to juniors as well within the coming weeks!

That’s everything from me until term 4! I want to wish everyone luck for their derived grade exams and to enjoy the last half of term!

Kiara Thyne,
Head Student
