Last term, Year 10 students took part in the Youth Employability Programme delivered by The Y. Over several sessions, students explored the top seven skills employers look for in today’s workforce.

The programme was strongly supported by our local community. Fitness instructor Tessa Smith visited the students to lead a tailored workout session, highlighting the importance of workplace wellbeing and maintaining a healthy work–life balance.

Another highlight was the supermarket challenge, where each student was given $15 to create a nutritious “worker’s lunch.” This hands-on activity helped develop key employability skills, including budgeting, communication, planning, organisation, and responding to workplace-style briefs.

To finish the programme, students donated their prepared meals to the Community Care Centre food bank. During their visit, students learned about the Centre’s valuable services and how local families can access support when needed.
