Last Friday, our Year 6 students took an exciting step toward their next chapter at Twizel Area School with Year 6 Transition Day. The purpose of the day was to help students experience a snapshot of Middle School life, easing the move into Year 7 and building their confidence for 2026. The day began with students joining their new House groups and gathering in the foyer, where they were warmly welcomed by Ms Saunders. She introduced them to what life in the Middle School looks like and helped set the tone for a day full of discovery and learning. This was followed by a session with Ms Neill, who introduced aspects of Health and Te Ao Māori.Across the day, students rotated through a variety of specialist subjects, each offering a hands-on activity designed to give them a genuine feel for the rich learning opportunities ahead:Hard Technology with Mr White: Students explored the workshop and had a go at practical, creative project work.DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) with Ms Neill and Ms Dixon: A quiet moment to enjoy reading, just like Middle Schoolers do daily.Science with Heather & Art with Mrs Frost: Half the group experimented with science concepts, while the other half expressed their creativity through visual art.Digital Technology with Ms Winter & Music/Drama with Ms Evans: A split session where students explored coding and digital tools, then swapped to experience performance, creativity, and confidence-building activities.Food Technology with Mrs McCulloch: Students enjoyed time in the kitchen, learning basic food skills and creating something tasty.House Sport: The day ended with energetic House-based sporting activities, promoting teamwork and connection.Transition Day was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 6s to get a sense of the routines, subjects, and spaces that will become part of their school life next year. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and confidence grew as they moved through each lesson, supported by the welcoming Middle School staff. We look forward to seeing these students take their next steps as they prepare for an exciting start to Year 7 in 2026!
