Lily, Riley and Hazel are Twizel Area Schools Senior Leaders for 2026. They have all written a piece to share a little bit about themselves.

Lily Burgess Head Girl 2026 

Kia ora, my name is Lily Burgess I am Twizel area schools head student for 2026, my role for this year is to lead and help the students across our kura and to grow the connections with the juniors and seniors. I am also the student voice for our board of trustees and love being able to add what our students need. Our deputy head students and I will work together and lead our house captains, assemblies, formal and many more fun events. I have lived in Twizel my entire life. This is my 13th year being at Twizel area school, being able to grow with the school I have seen what works well for us, I will take that to my best advantage. Just moving into this new building has made chaos but is making our days fun and go fast. I take so much pride in being able to be the first head student in the new building. And will hold this will me forever. My biggest aspiration is for those connected to grow throughout our school. kotahi tatou (we are one) I am forever grateful to spend my last year at Twizel area school being a head student.

Riley Beattie Deputy Head Girl 2026

Kia ora my name is Riley Beattie and I am one of the deputy head students for 2026, I am very excited to be part of the first student executive in our brand new school. I am excited to work alongside Lily and Hazel to help lead our house leaders, formals, assemblies, sports events, and many more events to come throughout the year. Being in a brand new school is something I am very excited about and I'm looking forward to helping set a positive tone as we all settle in. Sports have always been my favourite part of school life especially netball and basketball and I hope to bring that same energy and team work into this role. I am also looking forward to see what our new principal has planned for us and being apart of a strong start for our school community  

Hazel Henderson Deputy Head Girl 2026

Kia Ora friends, family, and students of Twizel Area School. My name is Hazel Henderson and I am one of your deputy head students for 2026, alongside Riley and Lily.

I want to share a bit about myself so you can get to know me as I help lead our students this year. I’m currently a year thirteen student, and have been here for my entire life as a student, which means that Twizel Area School has played a huge role in shaping me into the person I am today. School isn’t just where we learn, it is where connections and friendships are made that help us grow. As deputy head student, my goal is to be someone students feel comfortable approaching, whether they need support, encouragement, or just someone to listen. I am passionate about helping create a school environment where everyone feels included, respected, and proud to be themselves. I want to help strengthen the student voice and make sure that all students feel represented and valued.
