On Monday, February 9th, our school community gathered at 9:00 am for a deeply significant double celebration: the spiritual blessing of our new facilities and the formal Mihi Whakatau to welcome our new Principal, Vicki McIntyre.

This Term 1 and 2, we are coming together to support our talented students who will be selected to represent our school at the National Area Schools Sporting Tournament in Whangārei during the final week of Term 2.

Last week was a time for celebration as we honoured our incredible Year 6 students, marking the culmination of their primary years journey and wishing them well as they prepare to transition to middle school.

The staff and I have reviewed the needs of the school and how best to support these in 2026. This has resulted in some staffing changes of year levels and some different ways of grouping learners.

Twizel Area School is seeking a motivated and passionate individual to manage the organisation and administration of our school library. This is a central position within our modern, state-of-the-art new school.

Room 9 and Room 13 had an unforgettable camp adventure last week! Our Year 2–4 students spent a night on the school field, camping in tents, campers, buses, and caravans.

Junior swimming has officially begun, and our students have been making the most of the fantastic weather! 🌞🩳🏊‍♀️🩱 It’s wonderful to see the excitement and progress as our younger tamariki build their water confidence and skills.

This week, we were delighted to welcome dance educator Jordana Arnold from the Royal New Zealand Ballet, who led a series of engaging workshops for our Year 1-9 students.

Head Student Sadie Mason has some reminders as the school year begins to wind down.

Last week, M1 set off on a camp adventure based at Lindisfarne camp in Cannington. From discovering the rich history of Puna Tahu and sketching historic landmarks, to trekking across rocky rivers and uncovering hidden treasures like bones and bullet shells.
