This term, Room 4 has been lucky to partner with Meridian Energy to explore the world of Renewable Energy and Twizel’s important role in powering New Zealand.

A fantastic effort from Alice, Henry, Nadia and Mila, who represented Twizel Area School at the Otago Cross Country last Friday. Competing against more than 80 runners in each race, our students showed great determination and spirit.

What an awesome day it was up at Roundhill for the Mackenzie Ski Race Day! Our students hit the slopes with courage, determination, and plenty of smiles, making it a fantastic event to remember. We are incredibly proud of every single racer who gave it their all. 👏❄️

Our English Language Learners recently hosted a wonderful Pot Luck dinner, bringing together students, families, and staff to celebrate community and culture.

Head Student Kiara Thyne looks back on the activities from the last few weeks, as well as a timely reminder to her fellow senior students about the upcoming Derived Grade Exams.

As part of our Peace Week celebrations, the entire school came together for an energising whole school Zumba session. It was fantastic to see so many students fully engaged in the activity — even our middle and senior boys joined in with enthusiasm!

On Wednesday, August 27th at 2pm, a number of staff at the school (Year 1-6 teachers and support staff) will be attending a paid union meeting, facilitated by NZEI Te Riu Roa.

What an amazing week it’s been for our students at Lake Tekapo Springs!

The Ministry of Education is proposing significant changes to senior secondary school qualifications to better support students and their futures.

Deputy Head Student, Alexandria Swain, has updates, including this week's student Riddle Competition and a reminder about the upcoming NCEA Derived Grade Exams.

In Room 6, we celebrate all our learners and have a wonderful, inclusive environment that celebrates our diverse community. We celebrated Rhylen's success by holding a class presentation to commemorate the awarding of his WAKA Certificate and voucher to pick an ice cream of his choice at the supermarket.

Earlier this year, Tracy Scott from the Peace Foundation visited TAS to work with Room 4 and our Year 12–13 students. From this, a group of enthusiastic Year 4–6 students volunteered to become Peer Mediators, with some continuing their involvement after completing their training last year.

To bring a little fun on a very wintry week, we celebrated Midwinter Christmas on 25 July. Classes across the school were challenged to bring some festive cheer by decorating their rooms - and we were very impressed by the result!

We were fortunate to enjoy a fantastic day for this year’s cross country event, held on a significantly more challenging course that featured steep hills, muddy terrain, and a tough uphill track.

After days of thick fog blanketing the Mackenzie Basin, the sun finally broke through just in time for Twizel Area School’s annual Cross Country event—and what a day it was!
